Roberu started out when Shinji Iwamoto began to teach himself leather-working. Word of his work spread and in 2009 the brand was established, with the theme ‘handmade in Japan’ at its core. Mr. Iwamoto does the hand-stitching and machine-sewing himself but also works with trusted leather craftsmen in Asakusa, Tokyo.

For CRAFTED FOR LEXUS, he took on a new challenge, pairing leather and hemp canvas and using Italian leather for the first time. The reverse side of the leather is treated with beeswax, which gives a unique matte feel. The hemp is heat-treated with wax, making it water resistant. The finished product, meticulously sewn by skilled and trusted craftsmen, is light and durable.
