Nijiyura of Osaka is a renowned maker of traditional Japanese multi cloths called tenugui. Under the guidance of company founder and master craftsman Mr. Nakao, each Nijiyura multi cloth is hand dyed using the chusen method, which creates unique characteristics such as smudges and gradations. These “imperfections” are what make them so aesthetically appealing. The LEXUS multi cloth features the brand’s distinctive spindle-grille design. The greatest challenge was attaining the desired color gradations, as variations in temperature and humidity affect the outcome. Ultimately, the ideal coloration was achieved, though no two are alike. The cloth fuses tradition with new ideas, much like the company who commissioned it.
